Chinese robotics company Dobot showcased the culinary skills of its first humanoid robot Atom in a YouTube video.

The clip shows the humanoid machine loading a toaster with bread and then handling lettuce and cherries.

Then, it arranges the toast, lettuce, cherries, and sausage on a plate before pouring honey on the bread. Lastly, Atom tops it all off with a friendly smile.

This machine is Dobot’s entry into the competitive humanoid robotics market. The company was founded in 2015, and it specializes in robotic arms for industrial, educational, and other purposes.

Its latest machine has 28 degrees of freedom and ±0.05mm precision, allowing Atom to handle delicate tasks like preparing food.

Unlike other humanoid robots, Dobot’s creation works with straight knees. Consequently, it reduces energy consumption by 42% while being able to move across different terrains.

Its Robot Operator Model-1 (ROM-1) provides computing powers 7.7 times higher than the standard, allowing Atom to adapt to unstructured environments.

Dobot has not provided more detailed specifications and specified its target markets for Atom.

Yet, the demonstration video’s kitchen setting suggests potential for household use.

Nowadays, the tech world’s emerging robotics focus has NVIDIA releasing an AI model for humanoid machines called Isaac GR00T N1.

Learn how it could facilitate a new era of generalist robotics here.
