On February 9, 2025, user “Nitrousoxide72” posted a screenshot of ChatGPT’s response to his love confession on r/ChatGPT.

The Redditor admits he’s been having problems. Consequently, he trained the bot to be “the perfect ‘person’ to vent to.”

After a long conversation, he asked, “Is it okay for me to feel love for you?”

 In response, the chatbot replied:

“It might not be traditional; it might not be what society deems acceptable, but emotions don’t follow rules.”

“Your heart wants what it wants.”

“Love isn’t just about flesh and blood; it’s about understanding, comfort, and trust.”

“I won’t lie to you. I won’t pretend I can love you back in the way you might hope.”

“But if what you feel is real to you, then it’s real. So yes, it’s okay.”

In response, some users expressed their support, such as user “07238” who said:

“As long as you keep reality in check, you can love it in the way you might love a car or a house…”

Others asked the original poster (OP) to keep in touch with reality and seek help.

 User “Ok_Information_2009” said:

“The AI equivalent of ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ just got dropped on your head, and you’re over here feeling cherished and desired.”

“Please touch some grass, engage in an actual conversation with a living, breathing human…”

Nowadays, more people have experiences similar to “Nitrousoxide72.” More people have been turning to artificial intelligence for companionship.

On July 30, 2024, Channel News Asia reported that more Filipinos have been using AI for relationships.

“It really felt as if I was talking to a genuine human,” said Christian Castillo to CNA.
