Young people in Ho Chi Minh City catch trends in celebration of Reunification Day
Young people in Ho Chi Minh City have been catching trends in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2025).
T-shirts with images of the Vietnamese national flag, items printed with the map of Vietnam, and bamboo cups are among the items young people are embracing as part of this months trend.
Gratitude to older generations
Ngan Kim, a resident in Ho Chi Minh City, said April 30 is an opportunity for every Vietnamese person, especially the youth, to look back at their roots and express gratitude to the older generations who fought for independence, so that they can appreciate today's peace.
"I have created a photo shoot to preserve memories and spread the spirit of patriotism and share my pride in being Vietnamese," said Kim.
Traveling from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, 24-year-old An Ninh visited the Reunification Hall wearing a T-shirt printed with a conical hat and the words 'Independence Freedom Happiness.'
Ninh said participating in these activities is a way of spreading patriotism to others.
Wearing a T-shirt printed with a Vietnamese national flag while visiting the Reunification Hall, 21-year-old Hoang Vien expressed deep love for the shirt.
He wanted to capture a few photos at this meaningful location to pay tribute to the sacrifices made for independence.
Meanwhile, Da Thao wore a traditional ao dai (Vietnam's traditional long gown) along with a scarf printed with the Vietnamese flag.
The young woman from Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City said that every time she wears an ao dai, she feels proud of the traditional women's attire, especially on this occasion.
Trending items
In addition to clothing, many young people are excited to catch the April trend with phone cases printed with the map of Vietnam or bamboo cups engraved with the national flag and slogans like 'Hoang Sa (Paracel), Truong Sa (Spratly) belong to Vietnam.'
Duy, 21, from Ho Chi Minh City, said he was inspired to join the trend after seeing videos online, proudly showing off his new phone case featuring the map of Vietnam.
"For less than VND40,000 [US$1.5], I got a phone case to catch the trend with everyone. To me, it's a way to spread the national spirit to the community," Duy said.
Nguyen Huynh, the owner of a caf on Suong Nguyet Anh Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, has created three versions of environmentally-friendly bamboo cups.
Each cup features a slogan: '50 years of national reunification,' 'Hoang Sa, Truong Sa belong to Vietnam,' and 'Vietnam An era of rising.'
"I'm happy to see the holiday spirit embraced by everyone, from young people to older generations. Some families even bring their kids to the shop to buy products, hoping to teach them more about history," Huynh shared.
He added that each message on the cups serves as a reminder to the younger generation about patriotism and inspires the drive to contribute to the country's prosperity.
