Vietnam announces 5-day Reunification Day holiday
Public workers in Vietnam will enjoy a five-day holiday from April 30 to May 4 after Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approved five consecutive days off in celebration of the country's 50th Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers Day (May 1).
The decision, proposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (formerly the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs), includes a working day swap with Friday, May 2, becoming a day off, and workers will make up for the extended holiday by working on Saturday, April 26.
This creates a continuous five-day break from Wednesday, April 30, through Sunday, May 4.
In addition, the countrys National Day holiday will run for four days, from August 30 to September 2.
Altogether, officials, civil servants, and employees of administrative agencies, political organizations, and socio-political organizations in Vietnam will enjoy 22 days off in 2025, including 11 official holidays and 11 compensatory or rearranged days.
PM Chinh emphasized that during these holidays, agencies must organize staff to be on duty as needed to ensure uninterrupted public service.
He instructed leaders to assign personnel capable of handling unexpected or urgent matters.
The top official also encouraged businesses and individuals to remain active in economic and social activities, maintain supply and demand balance, and control market stability during the holidays.
According to Vietnam's 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 11 official paid public holidays annually, including one day for New Year's Day, five days for Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), one day for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, one day for Reunification Day, one day for International Workers' Day, and two days for National Day.
Foreign employees in Vietnam are also allowed one additional day off for their country's National Day and another for their traditional New Year.
