MANILA, Philippines — The Keepers Holdings Inc., the liquor distribution arm of Lucio Co-led holding firm Cosco Capital Inc., will buy half the shares of a local spirits company for P40 million.

In a stock exchange filing on Wednesday, The Keepers said its acquisition of 50 percent of Cervia Global Trading Inc. would mark its entry into the premium local spirits market.

It likewise “positions [The Keepers] for growth in international markets,” the company said in its disclosure.

Cervia is behind Sula, which produces liquor in coconut, dark chocolate and coffee flavors, using ingredients grown in the Philippines.

This will add to The Keepers’ portfolio consisting of global brands, including Alfonso, Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal, Suntory, Jose Cuervo and Red Bull. /dda
