An express boat service connecting downtown Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao Island off the coast of southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province will be suspended from Tuesday to Wednesday due to unfavorable weather forecasts.

The service operator, Thanh Thanh Phat Passenger Transport Co. Ltd., announced the temporary suspension on Monday afternoon.

The decision follows forecasts of strong northeasterly winds reaching 29-49 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 50-61kph and waves rising between 1.5 and three meters, making sea travel unsafe.

As a result, the ferry service from Con Dao to Ho Chi Minh City scheduled for Tuesday and the return trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao on Wednesday have been canceled.

The company has pledged to provide full refunds to passengers who have already booked tickets and expressed their apologies for any inconvenience caused.

On March 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works and relevant units held a ceremony to launch the express boat service on this route.

Thanh Thanh Phat Company operates the route using the 374-seat Phu Quy Express ferry, with journeys taking approximately five hours and 45 minutes.

Daily departures are scheduled at 7:00 am from Ho Chi Minh City and 11:30 am from Con Dao.

Ticket prices range from VND720,000 (US$28) to VND1.37 million ($54) depending on seating type and travel dates, with higher fares on weekends.

The launch of the express boat service was hailed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and Public Works as a significant development for marine tourism and inter-provincial connectivity.

Con Dao Island, known for its scenic beauty and historical significance, is a popular tourist destination.

The ferry service aims to provide an alternative travel option for visitors and alleviate pressure on land transportation.
