Marcos offers condolences to India over deadly plane crash

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed sympathy for the Indian government and the families and loved ones of those who died in the Air India passenger plane crash on Thursday.

“Filipinos are deeply saddened by the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad. On behalf of the Filipino people, I extend our most heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India, and especially to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives,” Marcos said in his social media accounts.

“Our thoughts are with every family, across India and beyond, grieving this profound loss. We stand in full solidarity with the people of India in this moment of sorrow,” the president also said.

Marcos also wished for the victims to be remembered with dignity and for the ongoing efforts to determine to cause of the tragedy to bring comfort and clarity to those left behind.

Air India Flight AI-171, bound for London with 232 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed in India’s northwestern city of Ahmedabad, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the directorate of civil aviation, said, as reported by The Associated Press.

It crashed into a residential area called Meghani Nagar five minutes after taking off at 1:38 pm local time, the report also said./mr
