Ho Chi Minh City adds 26 daily metro trips
Ho Chi Minh City's first metro line is operating 26 more trips per day from Tuesday to mid-August to meet higher passenger demand during the peak summer travel season.
Metro line No. 1, which runs 19.7 kilometers between Ben Thanh Station in downtown Ho Chi Minh City and Suoi Tien Coach Station in the Thu Duc area.
Trains on the metro line still run from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm daily, but the daily trip count has risen to 226, up from 200, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Management Center of Public Transport.
The number of trains is revised up from nine to 11 per day between Monday and Friday, while on weekends, the metro line continues to operate nine trains each day.
The hike was also expected to reduce train intervals.
Since the city's first metro line began commercial operations on December 22, 2024, it has effectively served both residents and tourists.
As of mid-June, the metro line had recorded some 10 million passengers.
A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway No. 1 Co., Ltd., which manages metro line No. 1, said that the figure was beyond expectations, reaching nearly 149 percent of the target for the first half of 2025.
The number of train trips reached over 34,600, achieving 100.3 percent of the schedule.
On average, the metro line serves some 58,000 passengers daily.
On weekdays, it handles around 50,000 passengers, while the number spikes to over 76,000 on weekends.
