Electronic toll payments become unavailable due to a system glitch at an expressway toll gate in Mitaka, Tokyo, on Sunday.

Tokyo, April 6 (Jiji Press)--A glitch hit the electronic toll collection system on some expressways in Tokyo and other Japanese prefectures on Sunday, causing congestion as automatic toll booths were closed.
The problem was affecting more than 90 automatic toll gates on 16 roads, including Tomei and Chuo expressways, in Tokyo and six other prefectures as of 5 p.m., according to Central Nippon Expressway Co.
Some interchanges that only accept electronic toll payments were closed.
The glitch may have been related to an ETC system update done on Saturday, according to the expressway operator.
When the glitch will be fixed is uncertain.
