Japan's Real Wages Fall for 2nd Straight Month in Sept.

Tokyo, Nov. 7 (Jiji Press)--Real wages in Japan fell for the second straight month in September as wage growth failed to keep up with the pace of price increases, the labor ministry said Thursday.
The inflation-adjusted real wage index dropped 0.1 pct from a year before, according to a preliminary report released by the ministry.
Nominal wages per worker rose 2.8 pct, growing for the 33rd consecutive month after employers raised pay at the fastest pace in decades this spring.
The consumer price index excluding imputed rent, used to calculate the real wage index, was up 2.9 pct after a 3.5 pct rise in August, a slowdown attributed to the resumption of government subsidies for electricity and gas bills.
Average nominal wages for full-time workers grew 2.6 pct to 372,881 yen, and those for part-timers rose 1.8 pct to 106,903 yen.
