Japan Core Machinery Orders Down 1.9 Pct in Aug.

Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press) --Japan's seasonally adjusted core machinery orders in August fell 1.9 pct from the previous month, down for two consecutive months, the Cabinet Office said Wednesday.
Private-sector orders excluding those for ships and power equipment, closely watched as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, came to 858.1 billion yen.
The Cabinet Office kept its basic assessment unchanged, saying that the pickup in machinery orders is at a standstill.
The August result, which followed a 0.1 pct decrease in July, was worse than the average forecast of a 0.3 pct fall among 18 private-sector think tanks surveyed by Jiji Press.
Core machinery orders from manufacturers declined 2.5 pct to 388.4 billion yen, reflecting sluggish orders for aircraft components. Orders for engines and electronic application equipment such as X-ray devices also fell.
