(Update) Japan's Lower House OKs Revised Pension Reform Bill

   Tokyo, May 30 (Jiji Press)--Japan's House of Representatives on Friday approved a revised pension reform bill that calls for a measure to shore up basic pension benefits.
   The bill passed the Lower House by a majority vote, receiving support from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party-Komeito coalition and the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
   The bill is expected to clear the House of Councillors, the upper chamber of the Diet, to be enacted before the current Diet session ends on June 22.
   On Friday, the bill was put to a vote by the full Lower House after clearing its welfare committee. Some opposition lawmakers opposed holding the committee vote.
   Former digital minister Taro Kono of the LDP, who had criticized the revised bill, was absent from the full chamber vote.
