Non-compliant goods worth THB17 million seized from Bangkok warehouse

Joint operation by DSI and TISI finds more than 100,000 electrical appliances

 

More than 100,000 non-compliant electrical appliances valued at approximately 17 million baht were seized from a warehouse in Khlong Luang district of Bangkok on Friday.

 

Acting on a warrant issued by the Thanyaburi Provincial Court, officers from the Consumer Protection Case Division of the  the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), alongside officials from the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), raided the premises suspected of storing and distributing electrical tools and appliances that failed to meet mandatory TISI standards.

 



 

The operation uncovered substandard goods, including extension cords, electric pots, hair dryers, nail dryers, and various other electrical items. These products are suspected of violating the Thai Industrial Standards Act BE 2511 and the Customs Act BE 2560.

 

A DSI statement said the operation seized a significant quantity of potentially dangerous electrical goods that posed a risk to consumer safety, and their distribution undermined the integrity of national standards.
  



 

In addition to the physical goods, authorities also seized computers and documentation, which will be used as evidence in further investigations. 

 

The seized items have been handed over to the DSI's Special Case Inquiry Officer for thorough examination, in accordance with the Special Case Investigation Act BE 2547.

 



 

DSI director-general Pol Major Yutthana Praedam emphasised the agency's commitment to combating the import and distribution of substandard products. 

 


"Protecting consumers from potentially harmful goods is a top priority," he said. "This operation demonstrates our dedication to enforcing national standards and ensuring public safety."
 
 



 

The DSI highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling such issues, stressing that strong partnerships are crucial for effective enforcement.

 

This operation aligns with the government's and the policies of the Ministry of Justice to build public confidence in the fight against illegal trade and to promote sustainable governance.
